a simple
thank you, but No
would have been enough
stopping my infatuation
in its tracks
I never took
nor was I meant to take anything from you
declining what I longed to give
is acceptable
welcome even,
if you could not meet me there
when my misplaced need for transparency
broke your trust
when I invaded your emotional space
causing a rift,
difficult to bridge
all friendship
all resonance seemed lost
your silence
a no in disguise
a sign of overwhelm, maybe
you, not gracing me with a response
is exercising a power
you always had
hearing you loud and clear
you don’t have to run from me
I can’t tell
are you maybe running from yourself?
though you owe me nothing-
I would wish for peace
honouring what was alive between us
