finding peace
I never find
real peace
in the avoidance of tough conversations
not in whitewashing
nor dismissing our discomfort
I don’t find it in the absence of transparency
and honest introspection
I find peace
in holding both our disagreement and discontent
in the capacity
to listen to each other without judgement
when the time is right
I find peace
in trusting that we can make space
to foster mutual understanding
I find peace in the courage to face
our emotions and welcome their range and intensity
I find peace in opening doors
and in breaking the walls of silence
I find peace
in the maturity we choose to bring to the table
